Since 1989, I've worked for large independent bookstores in San Francisco and Oakland, for various publishers—from hippie independents like Ten Speed Press—to multimillion dollar corporate companies such as Harcourt to educational publishers like the University of California Press. But my life long love has always been bookselling. Bookstores are an oasis for challenging times. They are a place to give voice to those who would be silenced, solace to those who are in strife, knowledge to those who are seekers.
