The Writer's Block Bookstore & Cafe

Four Anchorage women wanted to make a space where people can come together to talk, share, sing, hang out, read, chat, be vulnerable, take risks, drop mics, nourish their bodies and ideas and dreams, and generally be kind, thoughtful, curious, expressive, and genuine. To do it, they joined the community in turning the site of a former site of a sex store in Spenard, Alaska, into bookstore bistro with food, coffee, beer, wine, tea, baked goods and a full menu of comfort food and events. What it has become is what the people make it. They still work other jobs to keep things afloat, but you’ll find them behind the bar, whipping up specials, shelving books, cleaning glasses, and mopping the floor every day.
