Allow us to introduce ourselves!

We are Kristie and Kevin Lauer. We purchased Mulberry Bush Books Parksville in May of 2021, and have renamed it Sea & Summit Bookshop.

Why Sea & Summit? We are very adventurous people who have climbed mountains all over the world, and who love to be on the water. Kristie is originally from Vancouver Island and Kevin is from the Kootenays. After living in Lake Louise, Nelson and Sooke, we settled on Vancouver Island because we love that we can be so close to endless hikes and beaches. We believe Vancouver Island really does have the most to offer in the way of adventure.

It has always been a dream of Kristie's to own a Bookshop, and when the opportunity came up to purchase one, she leapt at it. Kevin was not as excited but is a very supportive husband who wanted to make the dream come true. And so, Sea & Summit Bookshop was born! Parksville seemed like the perfect place to run a Bookshop, as the surrounding area has so much to offer to tourists and locals alike with numerous shops, restaurants and attractions.

Kristie has a background in restaurant management and retail administration, and she also has experience as a bookseller. She has a degree in criminal justice and can provide excellent non-fiction recommendations (she also loves literary fiction and would be happy to chat about that). Click here for Kristie's staff picks. In her free time Kristie loves to hike, garden, trail run, cook, and most importantly, read. Kristie has volunteered for a number of organizations over the years and will continue to do so, as she believes in the power of supporting those in need.

Kevin works in banking, so he will not be around the shop too much, but you will see him in the occasional video or social media post. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys scuba diving, hiking, reading comics and gardening.

The other member of the family is our 23 lb Daschund cross that goes by the name of Chester. Chester does not care for books, but he does enjoy swimming in the sea and summiting mountains. He also loves to bark at the mail carriers.
