A heartwarming memoir of a family that refused to give up

When twenty-two-year-old Susan Stachler was diagnosed with cancer, her mother, Laura, was struck by déjà vu. The same illness that took her sister’s life was threatening to take her daughter’s too. Heartbroken but steadfast, Laura pledged to help Susan through the worst of her treatments. When they discovered that Laura’s homemade ginger cookies soothed the side effects of Susan’s chemotherapy, the mother–daughter duo soon found themselves opening the business “Susansnaps” and sharing their gourmet gingersnaps with the world.

Told with admirable grace and infinite hope, The Cookie Cure is about more than baked goods and cancer―it’s about fighting for your life and for your dreams.

Susan and Laura Stachler are the founders of Susansnaps, a nationally recognized cookie company, and the founders of the Susan Carver Foundation, which donates gifts to patients in metro-Atlanta hospitals and treatment centers.

Amy Tallmadge is a Canadian-born, Atlanta-based actress who began her career in theater and now works in film, television, and voice-over.

Bringing the experience of nearly four decades of theater, film, and television acting to audiobook narration, AudioFile Earphones Award winner Janet Metzger has deftly interpreted the many-faceted characters of Southern fiction writers such as Sarah Addison Allen, Patti Callahan Henry, and Kristy Woodson Harvey. As an award-winning documentary narrator and a master teacher at Emory University School of Law, where she teaches storytelling and persuasion, Janet brings both warmth and authority to nonfiction as well. Whether she is narrating a Southern romance, a heroine's journey, or an innovative take on business, Janet's warm and inviting voice will draw you into the story.

Reviews

“This deeply heartfelt and moving memoir recounts how the Stachlers’ darkest days ended in the triumph of building a successful business, each woman with her truest friend and ally by her side…A testament to the bond between mothers and daughters and a reminder that there is always hope.”

“Susan and Laura Stachler’s story is as heartwarming as a plate of warm cookies. More than a cancer survival story, this is the beautiful tale of two tough cookies who built a successful business on grit, determination, and love. I was rooting for them both, and you will too.”

“Stachler’s first-person perspective tells the story of how she fought cancer and won and of how she and her mother persevered through a variety of struggles, both physical and emotional, to create a successful business. Letters written by Laura to her dead sister give another viewpoint…Throughout, the devotion between mother and daughter is palpable. The Stachlers’ unwavering dedication to their product is also apparent, which will convince readers that they deserve their success. A sweet story of a strong-willed mother-daughter combo team who stood up to cancer and created a thriving business in the process.”
