“The Strick family: dysfunctional people just trying to navigate life. Astrid is a quirky, uptight mother of three adult children. She recently witnessed a woman get hit by a bus, triggering her to explore her life and act before it's too late. Meanwhile, her three children Porter, Nicky & Elliot are making mistakes in their own lives. All Adults Here explores friendships, family, morality, sexuality and most importantly love. I always enjoy a book with some family dysfunction, because whose family isn't a little dysfunctional? Listening to this book was pretty entertaining and found myself chuckling throughout. This book covered many topics without feeling pushy or forced. The characters came off like a real family, that should be on a sitcom. The growth of the family was really well thought out. This book was a win for me, and I will be recommending it to all of my dysfunctional friends.”

“A single sudden and shocking occurrence jolts Astrid Strick — widow, mother, and small-town stalwart — into reassessing her life, especially her failings with her three grown children. Even as she tries to find a path toward redemption, it’s clear her offspring are nursing different hurts. Straub’s lovely and charming comic novel explores the messy and dissonant truths that underpin the illusions we maintain about those closest to us. No one is at fault, and everyone is to blame. Even adults have to grow up. Utterly charming and completely engrossing.”

“All Adults Here centers around Astrid Strick, a widow who lives in a tight-knit community where two of her three adult children also live. Although circumstances could present close, supportive ties among this family, the reality is that Astrid has difficulty connecting to any of her kids—her daughter is a mess and seems might never grow up; her oldest son strives to attain a certain confusing stature of his own making; and her youngest son, who lives in New York, appears to be in a mindless, wandering haze which permeates his own life as well as his daughter’s. The story takes off when the aforementioned granddaughter comes to live with Astrid after being involved in some type of squabble at her previous school. This new challenge, as well as a past friend getting unexpectedly run over by a bus, sets Astrid’s life romping forward, forcing her to examine her past mistakes and to proclaim her new love interest to her family. A series of touching, funny, sexy, and real revelations by a diverse cast of characters unfold as each one deals with their own case of growing pains.”

“Emma Straub deals with some pretty heavy topics in All Adults Here. The story touches upon latent lesbianism, transgender issues, child abandonment, and grief. It sounds like it would be a real downer of a read, but it is far from that. Staub takes serious issues and humanizes them. Her characters are intriguing as well as amiable and the family dynamics are well-mapped as well as believable. I enjoyed this book so much and I was sad when I had to say goodbye to the colorful characters. The narration was done very well.”

“All Adults Here by Emma Straub is quick, entertaining summer read. With an eclectic cast of characters, I found the Strick family endearing as they tried to navigate the complexities of family, aging, and change. These pages felt like a glimpse into the family's life, that felt satisfying in the end, but certainly not complete, a fitting reminder that life continues on.”

“An immensely charming and warmhearted book. It’s a vacation for the soul.”—Vox
A warm, funny, and keenly perceptive novel about the life cycle of one family--as the kids become parents, grandchildren become teenagers, and a matriarch confronts the legacy of her mistakes. From the New York Times bestselling author of Modern Lovers and The Vacationers, and the forthcoming novel This Time Tomorrow.
When Astrid Strick witnesses a school bus accident in the center of town, it jostles loose a repressed memory from her young parenting days decades earlier. Suddenly, Astrid realizes she was not quite the parent she thought she'd been to her three, now-grown children. But to what consequence?
Astrid's youngest son is drifting and unfocused, making parenting mistakes of his own. Her daughter is pregnant yet struggling to give up her own adolescence. And her eldest seems to measure his adult life according to standards no one else shares. But who gets to decide, so many years later, which long-ago lapses were the ones that mattered? Who decides which apologies really count? It might be that only Astrid's thirteen-year-old granddaughter and her new friend really understand the courage it takes to tell the truth to the people you love the most.
In All Adults Here, Emma Straub's unique alchemy of wisdom, humor, and insight come together in a deeply satisfying story about adult siblings, aging parents, high school boyfriends, middle school mean girls, the lifelong effects of birth order, and all the other things that follow us into adulthood, whether we like them to or not.
Emma Straub is the New York Times-bestselling author of three other novels The Vacationers, Modern Lovers, Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures, and the short story collection Other People We Married.
