“Spot on! Beautifully read.”

“I liked the message of this book, with so much controversy over banning books, it shows how silly it all is. ”

“Everyone needs to read this book! Immediately! Simultaneously funny and heartfelt, Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books is an instant classic. It is full of love for the South, while also acknowledging its deep-seated issues. However, it approaches these difficult topics with care and empathy for everyone affected. I couldn't stop listening and part of me wishes it had never ended. The narrator, January LaVoy, is also excellent and elevates the experience that much more, giving each character (and there are a lot of them) a unique voice.”

“Love this story about how banned books and the banning of said books opens the hearts and minds of many in this small town story. Lula Dean is banning books from the local library, and when someone replaces the books in Lula's library with banned books, things start spiraling out of control. ”

“A fantastic look at the power of reading, the necessity of libraries, and the conversations that books on hard subjects can inspire! We have the opportunity to choose whose footsteps we follow in, so why choose the monsters?”

“WOW. I can confidently say this is one of my top books of 2024! It is funny and (mostly) light-hearted while broaching important, and often, polarizing topics. The story is woven through characters in small town Troy, Georgia as they start reading wholesome books out of Lula Dean's little free library... until they take the dust jacket off and discover someone switched Lula Dean's (president of the Concert Parents Committee and town busy body) books for banned ones! This sets off a whole chain reaction: the people of Troy are changed in the best ways possible through the connection books and stories can create if we let them. I absolutely loved it. 10/10 would recommend. The audiobook was extremely well done. Just one narrator was able to make it seem like it was a full cast production. She is extremely talented. (If you listened to Listen for the Lie, it's the same narrator!)”

“Kirsten Miller has that rare ability to take a serious subject and make it very, very funny. I enjoyed this novel and you will too.”--James Patterson
The provocative and hilarious summer read that will have book lovers cheering and everyone talking! Kirsten Miller, author of The Change, brings us a bracing, wildly entertaining satire about a small Southern town, a pitched battle over banned books, and a little lending library that changes everything.
Beverly Underwood and her arch enemy, Lula Dean, live in the tiny town of Troy, Georgia, where they were born and raised. Now Beverly is on the school board, and Lula has become a local celebrity by embarking on mission to rid the public libraries of all inappropriate books—none of which she’s actually read. To replace the “pornographic” books she’s challenged at the local public library, Lula starts her own lending library in front of her home: a cute wooden hutch with glass doors and neat rows of the worthy literature that she’s sure the town’s readers need.
What Lula doesn’t know is that a local troublemaker has stolen her wholesome books, removed their dust jackets, and restocked Lula’s library with banned books: literary classics, gay romances, Black history, witchy spell books, Judy Blume novels, and more. One by one, neighbors who borrow books from Lula Dean’s library find their lives changed in unexpected ways. Finally, one of Lula Dean’s enemies discovers the library and decides to turn the tables on her, just as Lula and Beverly are running against each other to replace the town’s disgraced mayor.
That’s when all the townspeople who’ve been borrowing from Lula’s library begin to reveal themselves. That's when the showdown that’s been brewing between Beverly and Lula will roil the whole town...and change it forever.
Kirsten Miller is the author of The Change, a GMA Book Club pick, Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books, and the groundbreaking YA series starring Kiki Strike. Born and raised in a small town in North Carolina, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York.
