Allison The Bookman
North Bay, ON
Since 1973 we have been welcoming browsers from all corners of the World! Our books have been picked up in airports in Japan, Europe, and all over the USA not to mention Canada! This store is the brain child of Gord Allison on the advice of his wife Esther to do what he was passionate about with literacy. An organized book store for people to browse and find easily what they were looking for was an important part of that dream coming true. With Esther & Derrick building the shelving, and the rest of the their family's helping - they brought Allison The Bookman into being! We are proud to continue serving the reading needs of the North Bay area with the 3rd Generation of Allison's taking the reigns with Annette Allison-Vander Waal eager to continue in her father and grandparents footsteps! Keep watch on our site as we go through the transformation to our own online sales department and helping you find your way into even more great new novel adventures!

“Love, Theoretically combines meme-based humor, sizzling romantic tension, soul-searching personal growth, and blazing critiques of the glaring disparities in academia. This book isn’t just awesome in theory — it’s a proven fact!”
Sarah Knapp • Inkwood Books NJ

“In this WWII epic, Luis Alberto Urrea captures the catastrophic scale of war through the eyes of Irene and Dorothy, two Red Cross enlistees. Their spry banter, secrets, and tender care make a story and a friendship you won’t forget.”
Sarah Hollenbeck • Women & Children First

“Equal parts modern satire, indictment of the publishing industry, and twisted ghost story, R. F. Kuang’s first foray into literary fiction pulls no punches and will have you reading late into the night.”
Abby Bennsky • Old Town Books

“Awesome. Thuridur was Iceland's first female punk, sea captain, woman to wear trousers, and all-around badass. She's the hero you didn't know you needed. Margaret Wilson did an excellent job researching this book learning from the people of Iceland. I listened on Libro.fm, but will also read a physical copy because I like to party.”
Monica • Bright Side Bookshop

“This novel is The Secret Garden meets Goodnight Mr. Tom meets Gone Girl. I loved it! I've been listening to this as an audiobook on my morning walks and I've been having to take afternoon and evening walks as well, because I just can't wait to hear more. I love the thought of a magical world only the sisters share with their stories. Patti Callahan Henry just captures that wonder of childhood so well. This book is an easy handsell and one of my favorites so far this year!”
Marya • Out West Books

“Of course I knew the Red Cross served in all the wars, but I thought it was nursing care and well back from danger. I had no idea they trained women to be a slice of home for the GI's, to cook donuts, play card games, be a listening ear, and deliver mail all the way up to the foxholes of the front line. I couldn't put it down.”
