Summary

"La última noche del capitán Martín Ávila" is a historical fantasy novel written by Emilio Carrère and first published in 1928. It recounts the adventures of a young man who, before fleeing Madrid because of a love affair in which a rival falls dead, promises his beloved that he will return with money and glory, ask for her hand in marriage or die in America trying to make his fortune. Set during the conquest of the Inca Empire in Peru, it is a story in which the fantastic is the protagonist. The author relies in real names, places and historical episodes, but plays with them and with his prolific imagination to offer us an epic tale in the tradition of Emilio Salgari's novels.

Like all of Carrère's works, "La última noche del capitán Martín Ávila" is a surprising cocktail.
