Faith Harrison, the preacher's daughter, returns from her trip to the nearby town of Tavern. She survives a robbery attempt from members of the Rumbarr gang, who tried to rob the stagecoach she and her friend Mae Blakely and Mae's grandchild rode on. Faith was the unlikely heroine of the day as she managed to drive away the robbers when she pulled out a gun and killed one of them, and injured another.
She returns to her hometown of Willow's Peak, and is busy preparing for the town's festival and dance. She hopes that the mysterious stranger who saved her at the saloon the other night will show up at one or both of the events so she can perhaps get to know him better. She is disappointed when she can't attend the night's dance when she is called to take care of a family friend in need. It all seems routine for Faith, until she runs into a terrible storm. Alone and helpless, Faith is desperate for help.
