Officer Lexie Sarconi is preparing for the detective's exam and finding her footing with a new unit. However, everything that she's worked so hard to achieve is about to crash and burn. The criminals have declared war on the police. No one is safe, and when Lexie ends up trapped in an ambush, nothing will ever be the same again.

But as a police officer, Lexie knows the risks. She swore an oath to uphold the law, but her boyfriend, Detective Michael Riley, feels differently. If he had known what was going to happen, he never would have let her near that crime scene. And now he's willing to break all the rules to get the men who hurt her.

Lexie fears the lengths Riley is willing to go. She and the rest of the unit want to stop these criminals from striking again, but she'll have to keep her eye on Riley to make sure he doesn't do something that will land him behind bars or worse. There are only so many lines a person can cross, and Riley's ready to cross them all.
