Summary

The servants who should have been doing all the clearing were contributing their bit but at a quarter of the speed. They spent a lot of time fussing around, mainly because it was in their local way of living to respect and revere age but also because they realised he was someone of significance.
Although appearance should not matter, human nature dictates that it does. Look the part and behave the part is a standard management rule. People who have reached the top in their chosen field gain an aura of confidence and self assurance and even power. The aura of power is unmistakable. Powerful people, even if from humble origins grow into their role and soon begin to exude this aura.
