Ever since China began its ascendancy to great-power status in the 1980s, observers have focused on its growing economic, military, and diplomatic power. But in recent years, Chinese officials, businesses, and institutions have increased their visibility and influence on every major global issue. How have these newer issues changed China's relationship with the world? And, importantly, how can we prepare for a future increasingly shaped by China?

In China's Next Act, Scott M. Moore re-envisions China's role in the world, with a focus on sustainability and technology. Moore argues that these increasingly pressing, shared global challenges are reshaping China's economy and foreign policy, and consequently, cannot be tackled without China.

In this clearly written and accessible overview, Moore examines how countries like the US must balance cooperation and competition with China in response to shared challenges. With an emphasis on opportunities as well as threats, Moore addresses not only key developments in sustainability and technology within China, but also their implications for foreign countries, companies, and other organizations. China's Next Act provides a unique—and uniquely balanced—window into these new dimensions of China's global ascension.

Scott M. Moore is director of China Programs and Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Provost as well as a lecturer in political science at the University of Pennsylvania. Moore was previously a young professional with the World Bank Group and served as environment, science, technology, and health officer for China at the U.S. Department of State. He is the author of Subnational Hydropolitics: Conflict, Cooperation, and Institution-Building in Shared River Basins, and his research has appeared in a variety of leading scholarly journals and media outlets, including The New York Times, Foreign Affairs, The China Quarterly, and Nature.

James Romick considers voice-over the fourth or fifth phase of his forty-plus-year acting career, which includes nearly twenty-three years on Broadway. But never in his wildest imagination did he ever think that he would be recording and producing audiobooks at home in his den from a vocal booth that he designed and built himself, stocked with professional grade recording equipment and a spiffy DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) on his computer. Thus far, he has recorded and produced some seventy-plus audiobooks, with many more waiting in the queue. He also studied audio engineering in the late eighties at The Institute of Audio Research in NYC, when editing analog tape with a block and razor blades was still the norm. Digital recording, editing, and mastering is so much easier.
