Spend twenty-four hours with the ancient Egyptians.

Ancient Egypt wasn't all pyramids, sphinxes and gold sarcophagi. For your average Egyptian, life was tough, and work was hard, conducted under the burning gaze of the sun god Ra.

During the course of a day in the ancient city of Thebes (modern-day Luxor), Egypt's religious capital, we meet twenty-four Egyptians from all strata of society—from the king to the bread-maker, the priestess to the fisherman, the soldier to the midwife—and get to know what the real Egypt was like by spending an hour in their company. We encounter a different one of these characters every hour and in every chapter, and through their eyes see what an average day in ancient Egypt was really like.

Donald P. Ryan is an archaeologist and faculty fellow in the division of humanities at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. He is a specialist in Egyptian archaeology, Polynesian archaeology, and ancient languages and scripts. He is best known for his research in Egypt, including excavations in the Valley of the Kings, where he has discovered lost tombs and controversial mummies. The author of several books and numerous articles on archaeological subjects, he is a fellow of the Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society and worked closely with world-renowned Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl.

Jonathan Beville is an audiobook narrator of suspense and thrillers, as well as historical fiction, science fiction, current affairs, and business titles. A classically trained actor, Jonathan has also enjoyed a successful career in the international business. He has had the privilege to live in both Europe and the Middle East, and has worked on projects taking him to more than eighty countries around the world. An avid SCUBA diver, Jonathan brings a spirit of adventure and a deep love for travel and exploration into the recording booth, and draws on people and experiences from his journeys around the world to inspire character voices in his narration. The father of two daughters, Jonathan resides in Maryland with his family.
