England in the early 1320s is a restless place. Edward II’s barons are disgruntled by his preference for Hugh Despenser, and in 1321 Roger Mortimer rebels against his king. With Baron Mortimer rides Adam de Guirande, Mortimer’s most loyal man. But when Edward II strikes back, things look uncomfortably dark for Adam, who finds himself a prisoner—and abandoned by everyone but his wife.

Mortimer is defeated and locked up in the Tower. Some years later, however, he is back, now with the support of the king’s wife, Queen Isabella of France, and with the king’s very young heir, the future Edward III, in tow. Yet again, where Mortimer goes, there goes Adam—and his beloved wife.

Had Anna Belfrage been allowed to choose, she’d have become a time-traveler. As this was impossible, she became a financial professional with three absorbing interests: history, romance, and writing. The author of numerous works of historical fiction, all of Anna’s books have been awarded the IndieBRAG Medallion, she has several Historical Novel Society Editor’s Choices, and one of her books won the HNS Indie Award in 2015. She is also the proud recipient of various Reader’s Favorite medals as well as having won various Gold, Silver, and Bronze Coffee Pot Book Club awards.

Greg Patmore hails from the north of England, born some several years ago in the historic walled City of Chester, although he considers himself a Wiganer as he spent most of his youth there. He is a British stage and screen actor and musician, boat skipper, aging tennis player, and rugby fan with a slightly unhealthy love of real ale and running further than his legs want to go these days. His audiobook work has attracted acclaim and awards, most notably an Audie, an Earphones award, and a SOVAS nomination. Listeners frequently feel as though they are listening to multiple actors in his productions.
