Meryem has learned to look out for number one.

Abducted as a teenager from England to Turkey, thirty years later she is finally free to live life on her own terms.

Divorced and wealthy, she is working a lucrative job in Dubai when a whispered confession from her dying father turns her world upside down, and sets her on a path to discover the truth.

The first step is a return to London, and her childhood friends, Alma and Sammy, with whom she embarks upon an impromptu 80s nostalgia weekend, complete with a George Michael look-a-like.

But the women, once so close, struggle to reconnect as forgotten memories and shocking revelations surrounding Meryem's abduction, tear open unhealed wounds threatening to destroy their frienship forever.

Beautifully and boldly written, Cary J Hansson merges history, everyday circumstances and aching tragedy into an unforgettable narrative.

Back to her future is the compelling first novel in the Gen X Series of women's contemporary fiction. If you like scarred, but resilent hreoines, nostalgic interludes and transformative epiphanies, then you'll love The Gen X Series.

Cary is a fifty something mum of three, an ex-dancer, actress, waitress, cleaner, TV presenter, double-glazing sales rep, fax machine operator. You name it and she's cleaned it, served it, sent it or sold it. After years of globe-trotting and messing about, she settled down to a BA in Literature and Creative Writing, got a First Class and promptly moved to Sweden to start her own mid-life adventure. She swims in the Baltic sea year round, paddle-boards under midnight suns and has learned to sail. The author of six books, Cary's work has been shortlisted in national and international competitions. She writes stories about ordinary people, living lives of extraordinary courage and indestructible humour. She promises only two things: no knights in shining armour and no flying cars. Her characters save themselves, as in the end we all must do.

Lisa Armytage is an experienced actor in film, tv and theatre, and an established audiobook narrator. After a season with the National Youth Theatre, she trained at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, soon afterwards emigrating to Australia. She is best known as Dr Beverley Marshall in the iconic Aussie soap, ‘Neighbours’, and the lead female role in the Australian romantic movie ‘Cool Change’. Also in Australia, Lisa was a main cast member in the TV mini-series ‘The Lancaster-Miller Affair’ and ‘Miraculous Mellops’ and took guest roles in ‘’Cop Shop’, ‘Cell Block H’, ‘The Flying Doctors’, ‘Police Rescue 2’, ‘A Country Practice’, ‘Sky Trackers’, ‘Heartbreak High’ and ‘All Saints’. Since returning to the U.K in 2003 Lisa returned to working in theatre before narrating a wide range of audiobook genres. She has recently completed her third audiobook in The Midlife Trilogy, (‘A Midlife Gamble’), and voiced roles in animations and audio dramas, of which ‘Murder in the Family’ by internationally recognised crime writer, Cara Hunter, is the latest.
