Robert Schumann var þýskt tónskáld. Hann fæddist 8. Júní 1810 í Zwickau og byrjaði hann að semja tónlist fyrir 7 ára aldur. Á fullorðins árum lærði hann lögfræði en hætti fljótt á þeirri braut til þess að verða tónskáld. Í dag þykir hann eitt færasta tónskáld rómantíska tímabilsins. Talið er að hann hafi misst heilsu vegna kvikasilfurseitrunar. Serían fjallar um helstu tónsnillinga allt frá árunum 1525-1907. Hún er byggð á skrifum Theodórs Árnasonar sem var íslenskur tónlistarmaður. Fjallað er um líf tónskálda og verk þeirra. Bókin kom fyrst út árið 1966.
