Franz Schubert fæddist árið 1797 í Austurríki. Hann ólst upp í Vín og lærði á fiðlu hjá föður sínum en á píanó hjá eldri bróður sínum. Í dag er hann þekktur sem afkastamikið tónskáld. Hann lést 31 árs gamall. Serían fjallar um helstu tónsnillinga allt frá árunum 1525-1907. Hún er byggð á skrifum Theodórs Árnasonar sem var íslenskur tónlistarmaður. Fjallað er um líf tónskálda og verk þeirra. Bókin kom fyrst út árið 1966.
