Doch mit dieser trotzigen Tat und ihrer Reuelosigkeit löst sie eine Katastrophe aus, die unweigerlich ihr eigenes Leben kostet. Ein klassisches Drama, das bis heute nichts von seiner gesellschaftlichen Brisanz verloren hat - der Forderung nach Menschlichkeit.
Jean Anouilh wurde 1910 in Bordeaux geboren. Er studierte einige Semester Jura an der Sorbonne. Nachdem sein erstes Stück "L'hermine" mit großem Erfolg aufgeführt worden war, beschloss er, "nurmehr vom Stückeschreiben und hie und da von einem Drehbuch zu leben". Anouilh scheidet seine Dramen in pièces roses (Komödien) und pièces noires (Tragödien). Mit Stücken wie "Der Reisende ohne Gepäck", "Antigone" oder "Colombe" wurde Anouilh zu einem der meistgelesenen Dramatiker Deutschlands. Er starb 1987 in Lausanne.
