Leiter des Freien Frankreichs, dann Leiter des Französischen Nationalen Befreiungskomitees während des Zweiten Weltkriegs, Präsident der Provisorischen Regierung der Französischen Republik von 1944 bis 1946, Initiator der 1958 gegründeten Fünften Republik, war er vom 8.
