“I've been very much enjoying my first foray into audiobooks: Stephen King's Fairy Tale. I listen to Seth Numrich's narration every time I'm in my car. I'm not the first to say that King is a master storyteller. As a writer myself, I've long been intrigued by his ability to flesh out characters well enough so that I can actually visualize them and empathize with whatever (likely terrifying) situation they encounter. In Fairy Tale (of which I'm about 1/4 of the way through) I am totally with mature-for-his-age Charlie and his adopted, misunderstood dog, Radar, as they are about to discover what the hell is living in the shed and the origins of the gold pellets. I also really love the relationship Charlie has with his widowed and recovering alcoholic father....I find myself hanging on every word, completely engrossed...”

“This book is for anyone who grew up reading Tolkien (or Stephen King, for that matter) under the covers with a flashlight, for anyone who has longed to turn back time, and, most importantly, for anyone who has ever loved a dog. Fairy Tale has my whole heart. Seth Numrich's earnest narration and King's guest appearance makes this a must-listen.”

“A boy, a beloved dog, and a fairy tale. Soooo good! It’s a long book, but don’t be intimidated, Stephen King is such an excellent writer he makes it go by fast. ”

“This book and the performer are equally brilliant! Seth Numrich knocks it out of the park with this not-so-typical Stephen King novel. ”

“For every reader who loves a fresh retelling of an old story, this audiobook is the perfect way to read one. The narrator does all the voices, from the charming to the revolting to the terrifying, with a character actor's panache and paces his performance perfectly as the tension rises.”

Master storyteller Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this #1 New York Times bestselling and spellbinding novel about a young man who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher—for that world or ours.
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.
Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world.
