When fifteen-year-old Chas finds a website asking people to write to prisoners on Death Row, he thinks it would be funny to get letters from a murderer. He writes to an inmate, pretending to be his mum. When his new pen pal is unexpectedly released, Chas' already problematic life spirals horribly out of control...

Ally Kennen comes from a proud lineage of bare-knuckle boxers, country vicars and French aristocracy. Prior to becoming a writer she had worked as an archaeologist, a giant teddy bear and a professional singer and songwriter. Ally lives in Somerset with her husband, her daughter and two sons, four chickens and a curmudgeonly cat.

Jerome Pride is an actor who has trained in both England and Australia and has worked extensively in film, television, radio plays, commercials, theatre, voiceover and audiobook narration. Jerome has appeared in television shows like Frayed, Blue Heelers and McLeodโ€™s Daughters. Reviews

"Written with a verve and confidence that never lets up, this excellent novel well deserves the large audience it should get." "This is a fantastic book, from the moment I picked it up, it had me gripped." "Fatherless, 15, and often in trouble, Chas, is living with his tough-as-nails grandmother and dealing with the death of his brother. On a lark, Chas sends a letter to a death row inmate as a joke. When the prisoner is unexpectedly released and comes looking for payback, Chas's involvement brings increasing danger to his family and friends. Though narrator Jerome Pride sounds a bit old for a teenager, his appropriate accent, expressiveness, and energy make this performance an involving listen. He infuses humor and a mischievous likability into Chas's character, rescuing him from being just another young thug. The listener can't help liking Chas as he perseveres when things become complicated and dangerous. Teenagers will enjoy this walk on the wild side." Expand reviews
