This book asserts that leadership is not something possessed only by a few people in high positions, but rather is a capability that we all need to bring to our roles in groups, organizations, and communities whether we are in a formal leadership position or not. Believing that leadership can be learned, the authors set out to expose students to key concepts of leadership, and then to help them develop their leadership skills. Written in an accessible style, the book can be read by any interested student, but is designed for use in leadership development courses, workshops, and programs on campuses and in youth organizations. An instructor's guide is available as a free downloadable file (PDF). The second edition builds on the success of the first edition, incorporating new insights and material developed in the course of the authors' work in the field, with their own students and with colleagues who have used the book in their work with students. It includes a new relational leadership model, uses a more global context and examples that relate to different disciplines, and it includes an all new section at the end emphasizing ways to work for and accomplish change. It concludes with a new chapter of concrete strategies for activism.
