From the cave walls at Lascaux to the last painting by Van Gogh, from the works of Shakespeare to those of Mark Twain, there is clear evidence that crows and ravens influence human culture. Yet this influence is not unidirectional, say the authors of this fascinating book: people profoundly influence crow culture, ecology, and evolution as well.

John Marzluff and Tony Angell examine the often surprising ways that crows and humans interact. The authors contend that those interactions reflect a process of "cultural coevolution." They offer a challenging new view of the human-crow dynamicโ€”a view that may change our thinking not only about crows but also about ourselves.

In the Company of Crows and Ravens takes a close look at the influences people have had on the lives of crows throughout history and at the significant ways crows have altered human lives. This book illuminates the entwined histories of crows and people and concludes with an intriguing discussion of the crow-human relationship and how our attitudes toward crows may affect our cultural trajectory.

Tony Angell, an author, illustrator, and sculptor, has won numerous writing and artistic awards for his work on behalf of nature, including the prestigious Master Artist Award of the Leigh Yawkey Art Museum. He has published a number of books, principally about the birds of the Northwest, including Owls, Ravens, Crows, Magpies and Jays, and Marine Birds and Mammals of Puget Sound. His sculptural forms celebrating nature are to be found in public and private collections throughout the country. Tony has worked actively as a board member of Washington's chapter of the Nature Conservancy, is an elected fellow of the National Sculpture Society, and retired in 2002 as Director of Environmental Education for the state of Washington after thirty years. He lives in Seattle with his wife and two daughters.

John M. Marzluff is professor of environmental and forest sciences at the University of Washington and is the author or coauthor of several books, including In the Company of Crows and Ravens, Dog Days, Raven Nights, and Welcome to Subirdia. He lives in Snohomish, Washington.

A classically trained actor, director, and teacher with many regional Shakespeare plays to his credit, Danny Campbell has narrated over 150 titles and directed at least that many. He is a multiple AudioFile Earphones Award winner and was named one of AudioFile's Best of the Year 2017.
