The first in Alexandre Dumas' The D'Artagnan Romances, The Three Musketeers is a classic swashbuckler and a seminal action-adventure story that has become a cornerstone of the genre since its publication in 1844. Set in the fifteenth century, it follows a young D'Artagnan leaving home for Paris with hopes of joining the King's Musketeers. He meets the titular three musketeersโ€”Athos, Porthos, Aramisโ€”and finds himself quickly wrapped up in matters of both court and state.

Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), whose works have been translated into nearly 100 languages, is among the most widely read French authors. Many of his historical adventure novels were originally published as serials, including The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers. His works have been adapted into nearly 200 films. Dumas' unfinished last novel, The Knight of Sainte-Hermine, was completed in 2005, and quickly became a best seller.

Pete Cross is an award-winning audiobook narrator and engineer who earned his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. A multiple Earphones Awards winner and Audie finalist, he was nominated for a SOVAS award for his narration of Moby Dick and received the 2022 Audie Award for Ryan La Salaโ€™s Be Dazzled and the 2023 Odyssey Award for Ryan La Salaโ€™s The Honeys.
