Learn moreHave you ever wondered how birds know when to fly south for the winter? This introduction to bird behavior explores how and why woodpeckers peck, how pelicans fly without flapping their wings, why birds sing, and more. The How Do series is a great introduction to various STEM topics, each written in a format that encourages audiences to ask questions and guess the answers before exploring the science behind them.
Clayton Grider is a University of Tennessee Knoxville alumnus, yet his love for birds began much earlier. As a kid, equipped with his motherโs binoculars, he would watch the robins, blue jays, and cardinals outside his house eating from the bird feeder. In college, his interest in birds broadened to the environment they live in, leading him to take many environmental and water management classes. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
