This memoir written by writer, orator, and former slave Frederick Douglass describes, in gripping detail, the circumstances of his upbringing, his brutal treatment at the hands of slave-owners, and his narrow escape from Maryland to freedom. Written in 1845, this narrative is one of the most famous works of American literature and provided fuel for the abolitionist movement that began in the early nineteenth century.
Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) was an American social reformer, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery, he became a leader of the abolitionist movement and was known for his dazzling oratory and incisive writing. He wrote several autobiographies that eloquently described his life as a slave and his struggles to be free, including his first and best-known work, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, which was influential in gaining support for abolition.
Bill Andrew Quinn has been narrating audiobooks for a myriad of publishers since 1992.
