Learn moreOur influence is our greatest responsibility. And our greatest gift.
We are influenced by every person and interaction we have, and, in turn, we influence everyone and everything around us. We all have a choice about what to do with our influence: Will we leave a negative impact on others or use our influence to become a shining beacon of positivity?
Smith and Griffin upskill readers with tools to stay humble, lead themselves and the people around them well, and create opportunities to expand their influence in new and exciting ways, including offering wisdom on:
Understanding that each person is important and has a tremendous influence
Looking out for common pitfalls and avoiding the traps you set for yourself
How to remain composed, take the high road, and avoid unnecessary overreactions
Understanding how you learn best so you can work to be your best self
Valuing true diversity and equality and understanding how it influences us all
Through sharing these core principles, readers learn to harness their power to create positive, lasting improvements in the people and environments around them. By helping readers understand the power they have to affect change, Positive Influence offers ideas for how to step into a life filled with prosperity and share that prosperity with everyone they touch.
Mary Smith has a bachelorโs in English literature and minored in psychology. She is currently working towards her masterโs in organizational leadership. In 2014, she started working with IA Business Advisors as an editor. After graduating in 2016, she became a full-time employee and still enjoys working with her team on various projects and developing The I in Team series to help all current and aspiring leaders find, be, and build their positive influence. In 2020, she became a Kolbe Certified Consultant. Her dog, Bilbo, accompanies her to the office on a hybrid working schedule.
Maryโs biggest passions in life are developing others and pursuing social and self-awareness. She has been vegan for seven years and is driven by valuing and promoting diversity. In the words of Neil deGrasse Tyson, โFor me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. Youโd be surprised how far that gets you.โ

Reviews
โPositive Influence: Be the โIโ in Team is a toolbox for managers to understand how their personal influence can affect every level of Maslowโs Hierarchy of Needs.โ
โUnderstanding the value of our influence can be a challenge for many. My influence has been to help people communicate and connect more effectively through The Fine Art of Small Talk. Positive Influence: Be the โIโ in Team is an important book that will enhance our understanding of influence in a positive and encouraging way.โ
โLeaders have paid lip service to the value of their team members for too long while not exhibiting the behaviors that reflect a true commitment โ and they are paying the price. In the timely and thought-provoking Positive Influence: Be the โIโ in Team, Smith and Griffin bring the broad subject of influence to the ground level and show leaders what effective behaviors, mindset, and action look like in the real world. A timely and relevant leadership guide during turbulent times. Grab a highlighter and write all over this book.โ
โPositive Influence is another great addition to the โIโ in Team series. I enjoyed the vulnerability shared by the authors with personal case studies that I can relate to.โ
โI love how Brian and Mary highlight choices and influence we have in our lives to make a positive impact to inspire people around us. I encourage your entire team to read this book.โ
โThis book should be gifted to all college graduates entering the workforce. We would all be so lucky to hire someone who has taken the time to absorb Brian and Maryโs discerning advice.โ
