Smart-aleck attorney Jackie Swaitkowski's business relies on constant movement of Hamptons' real estate market. After making an odd request to evict his sister-in-law from his home, one of her clients turns up dead. Jackie would have expected that to be the end of it, but an envelope found on the corpse contains an item so unusual that Jackie finds herself working on something bigger—and more dangerous—than real estate.

Chris Knopf’s mystery novels have received exceptional awards and accolades, with critics likening his character Sam Aquillo to Dashiell Hammett’s Sam Spade, Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe, and Robert B. Parker’s Spenser, while repeatedly comparing Knopf’s work to that of Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, and Ross Macdonald. Two Time was one of thirteen mysteries listed as recommended summer reading in the New York Times Book Review, and Publishers Weekly chose it as one of the “Best 100 Books for 2006.” Head Wounds won the 2008 Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Mystery. Dead Anyway was listed on the 2012 Best Fiction lists of both Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. Knopf is a sailor, cabinetmaker, and advertising executive in Connecticut. He and his wife Mary also spend considerable time at their Long Island home in Southampton.

Deanna Hurst is an actress, voice-over artist, and singer-songwriter. She has performed on stages throughout the United States, and her television credits include Judging Amy, Hunter, and Silk Stalkings. She has voiced hundreds of commercials for radio and television. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two dogs.

Reviews

“A vivid setting, sharp characterizations, and devious plotting.”

“Deanna Hurst flawlessly portrays Jackie, especially her humor and sarcasm…She also vividly portrays Jackie’s down-to-earth ex-boyfriend. Hurst imbues the dialogue with the essence of each character, keeping the focus on the players and making them all distinct.”

“Readers, fasten your seatbelts for a roller-coaster ride as Knopf’s intelligent, savvy protagonist works her wiles solving whodunit and why.”

“Knopf has a touch I like—cool, careful, reflective—and a great ear for the comic eccentricities of the human voice.”

“Crisp prose, brisk plotting, and sharp dialogue…More engaging hard-boiled crime fiction from a rising star.”

“Chris Knopf always delivers great characters and a solid plot but this fifth book is his best, and it also brings back smart lawyer Jackie Swaitkowski as the central figure.”
