That Hideous Strength – Set on Earth in the early 1950s, this ‘fairy tale for grown-ups’ centres around a newly married couple caught on opposing sides of a vast cosmological conflict. Young and ambitious, Mark Studdock is recruited into a mysterious scientific organisation named N.I.C.E. Meanwhile, his wife Jane has been having prophetic dreams, and seeks help from the fabled Dr Ransom. When he reveals that N.I.C.E. is run by his old adversaries – and that they intend to use a resurrected Merlin as an ultimate weapon to control the universe – Jane knows she must join forces with Ransom to defeat the powers of darkness...
