Learn moreA fascinating journey to rediscover the music of a composer who was lauded in his day yet forgotten soon after, The Dresden Manuscripts chronicles David Wilsonโs thirty-year quest to locate, reconstruct, and perform the music of Johann Adolf Hasse, a composer who, along with his equally famous wife, mezzo-soprano Faustina Bordoni, had close personal associations with Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, and Gluck.
David Wilson, teacher, scholar, and conductor, is professor emeritus of the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. In addition, he is artistic director/conductor emeritus of the Long Beach Bach Festival and the Camerata Singers of Long Beach. A graduate of the University of the Pacific and University of Illinois, he also studied conducting at the Berkshire Music Festival in Tanglewood, Massachusetts, and the Hochschule fรผr Musik in Vienna. As a recognized expert in eighteenth-century music, Dr. Wilson has conducted hundreds of works of Bach, Handel, and their contemporaries.
Stefan Rudnicki is a Grammy-winning audiobook producer and an award-winning narrator who has won several Audie Awards and been named one of AudioFileโs Golden Voices. Stefanโs early singing career included choral and solo concerts at Carnegie Hall, Judson Hall, and Lincoln Center.
Reviews
โDr. Wilson takes us on an emotional and fascinating journey into the life of this genius and shows how even one personโs passion can make a difference in bringing back the lost treasures of the past.โ
โStefan Rudnickiโs able and professional performance helps to keep the listener engaged. His deep and craggy yet flexible and expressive voice is naturally appealing, and his skill is evident in excellent pacing, generally careful attention to nuances of the text, and an ability to convey feelings by voice alone. The narration is punctuated or occasionally backed by brief musical quotes, a welcome audio-only enhancement.โ
