The Home of the Blizzard is a tale of discovery and adventure, of pioneering deeds, great courage, heart-stopping rescues and heroic endurance.

This is Mawsonโ€™s own account of his years spent in Antarctica, travelling in sub-zero temperatures and gale-force winds. At its heart is the epic journey of 1912-13, during which both his companions perished.

Told in a laconic but gripping style, this is the classic account of the struggle for survival of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition โ€“ a journey which mapped more of Antarctica than any expedition before or since.

Sir Douglas Mawson (1882โ€“1958) was an Australian Antarctic explorer and geologist. Along with Roald Amundsen, Robert Falcon Scott, and Ernest Shackleton, Mawson was a key expedition leader during the heroic age of Antarctic exploration.

James Condon has worked in Australian television since its pioneering days. He is one of Australia's most experienced and widely known actors and has appeared in a great many Australian television dramas, including A Country Practice, Neighbours, Carson's Law, and Blue Heelers. James narrated the 1992 and 1995 TDK Australian Audio Books of the year.

Reviews

"Unputdownable. One of the greatest polar adventure stories you'll ever read.โ€ "The coldest, windiest place on Earth went largely unexplored until the early twentieth century, when an Australian expedition led by Douglas Mawson spent two years living on the icy subcontinent of Antarctica. Experienced narrator James Condon, also an Australian, brings perfect elocution to the production. During passages of extreme challenge and tragedy, Condon allows himself to be caught up in the story, and the production benefits." Expand reviews
