William F. Buckley's bestselling Blackford Oakes novels have set a new standard for stylish espionage entertainment. Now Buckley sends Oakes on his most thrilling adventure yet.

The year is 1964. Faced with a hard-hitting presidential campaign and a deteriorating situation in Vietnam, Lyndon Johnson dispatches Oakes and a swashbuckling soldier of fortune named Tucker on secret missions to Southeast Asia. Tucker is to figure out how to interdict military traffic along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Oakes is to supervise a secret operation in the Gulf of Tonkin, an operation that will give Johnson the excuse he needs for a greater US military role in Vietnam.

Filled with the intrigue, wit, and historical detail that have distinguished the previous novels of the series, Tucker's Last Stand is William F. Buckley Jr. at his inimitable best.

William F. Buckley Jr. (1925–2008) was the founder of National Review and the host of one of television’s longest-running public affairs programs, Firing Line. The author of more than fifteen novels, many of them New York Times bestsellers, he won the National Book Award for Stained Glass, the second in the series featuring Blackford Oakes.

Christopher Hurt is an accomplished narrator with a lengthy résumé of popular titles for Blackstone. A graduate of George Washington University’s acting program, he currently resides in New York City.

Reviews

“Tense, chilling, unflaggingly lively…A romp and something more.”

“[Offers] fascinating glimpses of such Capitol figures as Abe Fortas, the Bundys, and Robert Kennedy.”

“Buckley strives with fair effect to ring soft bells on the Martyred Buddy theme familiar to fans of far-off wars since Beau Geste. Sensible spying, with buffoonish Lyndon Johnson for comic relief.”
