Nim lives on an island in the middle of the wide blue sea, shared by only her father Jack, a marine iguana called Fred, a sea lion called Selkie, a turtle called Chica, and a satellite dish for her e-mail. No one else in the world lives quite like Nim, and she wouldn’t swap places with anyone.

But when Jack disappears in his sailing boat and disaster threatens her home, Nim must be braver than she’s ever been before. And she needs help from her friends, old and new.

Wendy Orr is the author of many award-winning books for children, including Nim’s Island, which was made into the 2008 film of the same name; a 2013 sequel, Return to Nim’s Island, was loosely based on her book Nim at Sea. Her novel Dragonfly Song is a Junior Library Guild Selection and a Kirkus Reviews Best Middle-Grade Books selection, among other honors.

Kate Reading is the recipient of multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards and has been named by AudioFile magazine as a “Voice of the Century,” as well as the Best Voice in Science Fiction & Fantasy in 2008 and 2009 and Best Voice in Biography & Culture in 2010. Reviews

“A fantasy tale as welcome as a breath of fresh tropical air…With ample doses of suspense and comedy, and a pleasingly sappy happily-ever-after ending, the tale portrays the improbable so cleverly that readers will want to believe everything about the likable Nim and her idyllic isle.”

“This finely produced audiobook captures the spirit of Orr's fantastic tale…Reading lightly differentiates characters’ voices, but her real strength lies in her expressive delivery. Children will savor the slivers of information about the tropical habitat, the adventure and survival themes, and the imaginative twists that Orr works into the story.”

“With a perky tone Kate Reading keeps listeners engaged as the descriptions of daily tasks alternate with descriptions of the pleasures of island living. Through unlikely plot twists, Reading keeps suspense alive as a marvelous cyber friendship built on mistaken identities develops in this satisfying adventure.”
