High heels, hijinks, and head honchos in Hollywood

Alexa Ross has risen to the top of the Hollywood boys’ club. As the vice president of comedy development at Hawkeye Broadcasting System, Alexa has put her early years working as an assistant to Jerry Kellner, her sex-crazed former boss, behind her.

However, nepotism lands Jerry a plum spot at HBS…reporting to Alexa! Soon Jerry’s malicious behavior is destroying everything good in Alexa’s life, from the young student she tutors to the romance she thought she’d never find. Can Alexa win the battle for ratings and break through the glass ceiling, even if it destroys her—and everything she loves?

Sharp, witty, and heartwarming, Primetime Princess is an unforgettable sneak peek into the exclusive behind-the-scenes drama that occurs over the course of one TV development season.

Lindy DeKoven worked her way from secretary/receptionist for the CBS Sports remote crew to executive vice president of NBC. One of the most talented and successful entertainment executives in the field, she oversaw numerous productions including the Emmy Award–winning Gulliver’s Travels, and worked with great talents such as Barbra Streisand, Glenn Close, Sally Field, Morgan Freeman, and Christian Bale. Her movies and miniseries helped launch the careers of such young stars as Hilary Swank, Michelle Williams, Keri Russell, and Jerry O’Connell. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her to the California Commission on the Status of Women and the California Film Commission. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, David Israel.

Reviews

“Captures the shark-infested waters of cut-throat primetime broadcasting with glee.” —Daily Beast

“…A page-flipping, witty beach reach [that] also contributes to the ongoing discussion about whether or not women can really have it all and what the somewhat mystical ‘all’ actually entails.” —Pop Matters

“The stakes are high and ambitions are huge among the people who decide what America watches on television every night. Insider Lindy DeKoven gives us an insightful, witty and entertaining peek into a male-dominated, hidden world. Be prepared to laugh out loud, shake your head in disbelief but, mostly, cheer as heroine Alexa Ross navigates her way through. I should have been writing my own book, but I couldn’t stop reading Primetime Princess!” —Mary Jane Clark, New York Times bestselling author

“This examination of what one wants, and what lengths one is willing to go to get it, touched my funny bone and my heart! Now, if only television on screen could be as compelling, we’d have something!” —Samuel L. Jackson

“Both hilarious and thought-provoking, Primetime Princess reveals the male chauvinist world of network TV and creates the perfect heroine who’s determined to climb to the top of the rowdy heap. You’ll be cheering from page one!” —Jennie Fields, author of The Age of Desire

“Lindy DeKoven hits a prime-time nerve with, oh, every woman who’s ever had a job anywhere outside a convent! You will sympathize, empathize, agonize but ultimately rejoice with her finely drawn heroine…Primetime Princess is a completely engaging, thoroughly entertaining read—with a vitally important message deftly woven in its pages.” —Jill Conner Browne, The Sweet Potato Queen

“Lindy DeKoven’s brilliant debut manages to be a rollicking insider’s tour behind the scenes of the Hollywood game, a searing indictment of the entrenched Boys’ Club that dominates the industry, and a really great story about heroine Alexa Ross and her journey into the heart of that darkness—not just up the corporate ladder at the possible cost of all she holds dear, but toward a better understanding of who she is and what she wants out the life she’s worked so hard to build. This is one of my favorite books this year!” —Megan Crane, author of I Love the 80s and Once More With Feeling

“Impossible to put down! Alexa Ross is the smartest ‘guy’ in the room in the men’s world of Network TV.” —Daphne Zuniga, Actress, Melrose Place and One Tree Hill

“I thoroughly enjoyed Primetime Princess. A real page turner, I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.” —Coach Bob Knight, co-author of The Power of Negative Thinking

“Love this book! So this is what goes on behind the scenes at a TV network. Found myself smiling and laughing from the first page to the last.” —Bo Derek

“Lindy DeKoven pulls back the curtain on the wacky, nutty, egomaniacal world of bigtime network television. Settle back and enjoy. This book is a hoot.” —Al Michaels, Sunday Night Football, NBC Sports
