“A great story about a quirky yet lovable woman who grapples with guilt from her past. A well done audio book. Highly recommend!”

“Lenny Marks is quirky, over-thinking, socially-awkward, traumatized, big-hearted...and a completely endearing character. When someone from Lenny's childhood threatens to reappear, repressed memories start to bubble to the surface. Was she capable of murder? Is she now? I loved living inside Lenny's brain while she slowly came to the realization that she is worthy of love and living a good life - no matter what happened in her past. Fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine will enjoy getting to know Lenny Marks.”

“Itโs been a minute since Iโve done a book review, but I just finished 'Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder' and I feel like I need to share it. I *do* know that part of the appeal for me was the Australian accent of the narrator, but Iโm convinced I would also enjoy it as a physical book. Originally I chose his book because I thought it would be a campy mystery book. Not the typical book I would choose but I wanted something different. This book is definitely not a cozy or silly mystery book. Instead, itโs a story that patiently reveals an entire world and backstory of a character that is likely nuerodivergent navigating life after a traumatic childhood. However, at the same time, the main character has created a life that while lonely, certainly does have many cozy elements to it. I would warn readers that there are instances of abuse that may be triggering. The book doesnโt intentionally go into great detail about but the content is upsetting. At the bottom of this book โ I think the author is just a good story teller. She allows characters to be authentic and take a long time to grow โ even when youโre hoping they make different decisions. It was a pleasure getting to know Lenny Marks and even though sheโs not a real person, there were many times that I wanted to be her friend and give her a hug. At this point, I just want someone else to read this book so I can talk to them about it.”

“Lenny Marks is far from your average protagonist. You will not understand at first what makes her act so strangely. You will feel sorry for her, you will be embarrassed for her, and you will often laugh at her. But, as her horrific past is slowly revealed you will start to understand what she had to do to survive and forget. You will fall in love with her and laugh with her and you will root for her to finally have the life she deserves. Lenny Marks will definitely leave her mark and you wonโt soon forget this amazing character or her engaging and thought provoking story. ”

“This was a wonderful read from start to end! Lenny stayed true to her core self and learned how to be more open as well. I love it when a main character embraces who they are, flaws and all. Lenny was so strong and courageous! And Malcolm is also the best! ”
— Sarah • Cavalier House Books
Lenny Marks is excellent at not having a life.
She bikes home from work at exactly 4pm each day, buys the same groceries for the same meals every week, and owns thirty-six copies of The Hobbit (currently arranged by height). The closest thing she has to a friendship is playing Scrabble against an imaginary Monica Gellar while watching Friends reruns.
And Lenny Marks is very, very good at not remembering what happened the day her mother and stepfather disappeared when she was still a child. The day a voice in the back of her mind started whispering, You did this.
Until a letter from the parole board arrives in the mail--and when her desperate attempts to ignore it fail, Lenny starts to unravel. As long-buried memories come to the surface, Lennyโs careful routines fall apart. For the first time, she finds herself forced to connect with the community around her, and unexpected new relationships begin to bloom. Lenny Marks may finally get a lifeโbut what if her past catches up to her first?
Equal parts heartbreaking and heartwarming, Kerryn Mayneโs stunning debut is an irresistible novel about truth, secrets, vengeance, and family lost and found, with a heroine who's simply unforgettable.
