“This is my first Emily Henry book—shocker, I know. That being said, this is an unbiased review! I am a rom-com girly through and through. I love giggling and kicking my feet reading about fictional couples, and I did just that with Funny Story. It's a fresh take on the fake dating trope. Daphne and Miles have my heart forever. The slow burn was slow burning, that is for sure. I snorted, laughed, cried, and everything in-between. The growth they go through together and separately is just so sweet and beautiful. Now excuse me while I go inhale every Emily Henry book ever written. ”

“This was my first foray into the world of Emily Henry and I am ready to take a deep dive into all of her books. Daphne, the protagonist of the story, is dealing with heartbreak after her fiancé leaves her for his best friend from childhood. The story of her figuring out what to do next is at times heartbreaking, resilient, and downright hilarious. The characters in this book, from equally heartbroken Miles, to her flighty father, to co-workers who appear the exact opposite of her, make up a well thought out, intertwined cast that I would love to grab a drink with after work. Small-town and scenic Waning Bay, Michigan serves as the background, and makes me want to book a summer trip there tomorrow. Highly recommend!”

“This is my first read from Emily Henry (I'm late, I know!) and it was such a refreshing and fun read. While it does delve into serious topics, Daphne and Miles are funny and the kinds of characters you want to root for (especially given the rough beginning of the book)! Julia Whelan does a fantastic job, as usual, of portraying the characters' emotions fully as well. Sometimes pretend 'man voices' can be super awkward but she makes it work, as though Daphne is telling the story to a friend perhaps. Overall this was a great time and I flew through the audiobook! ”

Daphne and Miles are - to me - the comfortable reliability of your dinnertime game show of choice, and the warmest quilt of eccentricities used to get cozy, respectively. Daphne is a funny, punctual children's librarian, and the product of an unreliable father and a kick-ass single mom. Miles (big Klaus from Umbrella Academy vibes) is an attentive, ADHD-coded, farmer's market regular whose family issues would take a while to unpack. Much like what I loved about Happy Place, the weight placed on friendships in this book is so lovely and real. The romance is not neglected though and Daphne and Miles kiss in a way that made me look into the camera. Gorgeous intimacy, and a beautiful friendship to lovers pipeline.”
