“A must for lovers of classic mysteries. A story where all of the characters, suspects and victims are mystery authors, agents, or publicists. A locked room mystery taking place on a train which, as our author/ narrator reminds us, isn’t really a locked room mystery because none of the rooms on the train have locks. Brilliantly written, outstanding narration, funny and quirky, it is a book lover’s book you won’t want to miss. ”

“Really enjoy the vibes of these books. Cozy mystery with a dash of humor and a big helping of breaking the fourth wall. This is the sequel to Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, and it takes place at a writer's conference on a train. As someone who has spent quite a bit of time at literary conferences, this one really struck a chord! Delightful.”

“This mystery was an absolute delight. I listened to it and flew through, it was so good. And, it turns out it was the second book in the series and I got to enjoy it even without reading the first. (Which I have now listened to and also loved.) Ernest Cunningham, writer of how-to write mystery books, is on a super special writer’s society train ride when he is, again, beset by murder. Using the tactics he’s learned from the writers during the golden age of mystery, he is the only one who can solve it! This tongue-in-cheek, well-crafted, and hilarious mystery is one of my favorites of the year. ”

“Benjamin Stevenson, writing as his hapless, true-crime-author protagonist, Ernest Cunningham, is a sharp and humorous observer of clichéd human behavior. In this sequel to Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, Cunningham is invited to a crime-writing festival aboard Australian’s cross-continental luxury train line, where he will rub elbows with the genre’s most revered authors. He also hopes to spend his downtime writing his first piece of crime FICTION, for which he’s already been paid an advance, but circumstances hand the lucky (or unlucky) man a real-life murder mystery. Stevenson/Cunningham weaves together a perfectly delightful locked room mystery, connecting deeply buried secrets with present-day consequences. Along they way, the author lays out all the rules of a 'fair play' mystery, sprinkling plenty of clues to help readers draw their own conclusions about who will end up dead and by whose hands. The novel offers lots of enjoyable 'inside baseball' about the publishing industry, challenges for sequels, and author rivalries. A fun ride. I listened to this on Libro.fm. The narrator's tone perfectly captured the protagonist's droll humor and the Australian accent had a huge impact on communicating the setting. Great audiobook! ”

“I had so much fun reading this uniquely written mystery! It made me sorry I missed Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone! Our protagonist is a likeable and reliable character who is easy to root for. Delightfully produced for listening on Libro.fm.”

From the bestselling author of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, a fiendishly fun locked room (train) murder mystery that ""offers a tip of the hat to the great Agatha Christie novel while at the same time being a modern reinvention of it"" (Nita Prose) -- perfect for fans of Richard Osman and Anthony Horowitz
When the Australian Mystery Writers’ Society invited me to their crime-writing festival aboard the Ghan, the famous train between Darwin and Adelaide, I was hoping for some inspiration for my second book. Fiction, this time: I needed a break from real people killing each other. Obviously, that didn’t pan out.
The program is a who’s who of crime writing royalty:
the debut writer (me!)
the forensic science writer
the blockbuster writer
the legal thriller writer
the literary writer
the psychological suspense writer
But when one of us is murdered, the remaining authors quickly turn into five detectives. Together, we should know how to solve a crime.
Of course, we should also know how to commit one.
How can you find a killer when all the suspects know how to get away with murder?
