A Thursday Murder Club Mystery: Book #1
By Richard Osman
Narrated by: Lesley Manville
Length: 12 hours 25 minutes
The Thursday Murder Club
“Witty and sharp and twisty, this mystery will be just your cup of tea! At a posh retirement community, an elderly group of crime enthusiasts meet on Thursdays to go over old cold cases. When several current murders happen practically on their front stoop, these silver haired sleuths start digging for clues. There are a lot of secrets and hidden motives to unearth, which will keep the reader guessing until the last page. The narration by Lesley Manville is superb!”

Gideon the Ninth
Locked Tomb: Book #1
By Tamsyn Muir
Narrated by: Moira Quirk
Length: 16 hours 49 minutes
Gideon the Ninth
“This is everything I wanted in a book and more. Gideon is likable but flawed, Harrow is horrible and unforgettable, and the prose occasionally turns hauntingly beautiful. The narration helps make a complex world become real and the characters friends you may or may not want to invite over to dinner. It depends on whether your folks are there.”

Amari and the Night Brothers
Supernatural Investigations: Book #1
By B. B. Alston
Narrated by: Imani Parks
Length: 11 hours 11 minutes
If you enjoyed The Trials of Apollo, Book One: The Hidden Oracle, then you’ll love Amari and the Night Brothers.
“This book was fun! As a reference point, I would say it's a Spy Kids/Men in Black/Percy Jackson/Harry Potter hybrid but honestly, it's in a class all of it's own. Amari was a wonderful main character. She is super smart and caring and despite the absolute terribleness of her peers, prevails by learning to trust herself and use her talents to stand out. There was lots of blatant and unpunished racism, classism, and and brutal meanness coming from the majority of Amari's classmates, both in the non-supernatural world and in the Bureau. On their first day, all trainees have to touch a magical orb and one of their already present abilities gets magnified and becomes a special ability (ie general luckiness becomes unnatural/always happens luckiness). When Amari is bestowed with an illegal ability, she becomes the target of both racism and a form of intense otherism in the supernatural world. I also loved her friendship with Elsie, who was the last of weredragons (like werewolves but for dragons!) and suffered her own share of bullies and otherism for being a bit dorky and for not having shifted to her dragon form yet. The audiobook edition of this novel was well done. Imani Parks gives a perfect voice to Amari and the other young main characters. This is a great read for juvenile readers (anywhere from advanced an advance 8/9 years to teens) and is fun and exciting for adults as well so would also be a great read-aloud book for guardians with younger readers. I would recommend for avid Percy Jackson and Harry Potter fans, those that enjoy spy or adventure books, and even those who enjoy fairy tale epics.”

The Duke and I
Bridgertons: Book #1
By Julia Quinn
Narrated by: Rosalyn Landor
Length: 12 hours 9 minutes
The Duke and I
“As an avid romance reader, I've been hyper-aware that I lack experience in one sub-genre in particular: historical fiction romance. Right once I picked up The Duke and I, I knew I found the perfect introduction to the genre. Not only was I enamored with Daphne and Simon's love story, but I was impressed by the novel's feminist themes. The women in this series are outspoken, passionate, and easy to root for. The novel left me smiling from ear to ear. The audio was fantastic as well! Rosalyn Landor did a great job differentiating among characters, translating the humor from page to audio, and keeping me invested in the story. ”

Length: 14 hours 34 minutes
The Widows of Malabar Hill
“I loved this novel! Sujata Massey is a strong, confident storyteller and this captivating mystery, set in 1920s Bombay, features superb world-building, a riveting plot, and great characters. Perveen Mistry is a richly written protagonist: By turns confident and conflicted, she strives to do the right thing and is more than capable of getting herself out of trouble. Highly recommended for a fresh take on the mystery genre.”

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
Wayfarers: Book #1
By Becky Chambers
Narrated by: Rachel Dulude
Length: 14 hours 23 minutes
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet
“This gripping, diverse novel, set well after Earth's residents have scattered to Mars, other planets, and itinerant spacecraft, is as scientifically and sociopolitically plausible as any science fiction I've ever read or listened to. The characters, from a variety of alien species along with AI, have wide-ranging journeys that speak to our current reality and to issues of immigration, xenophobia, colonization, economic class, technological advancement, environmentalism, and more. The members of one species are all born female and becomes male later on, of another all use "they" pronouns, and of another are free with their touch and affection and find amusement in human hangups about touch. In the midst of all this complex representation emerges a story that stands alone as cohesive, meaningful, and powerful.”

How to Catch a Queen
Runaway Royals
By Alyssa Cole
Narrated by: Karen Chilton
Length: 10 hours 53 minutes
How to Catch a Queen
“In a time when Black kings and queens are a much-need balm to a seeming overflow of anti-Black sentiment, I fell in love with Shanti and Sanyu. Bogged down by tradition, ritual, and grief, Sanyu is trapped in a well of unrealistic expectations. Shanti, a queen searching for her kingdom, is the self-assured heroine we all look for and want to be. This story of their partnership turned love affair is filled with forbidden heat and flames, as well as the promise of a better tomorrow. Complex characters for complex times. I loved it.”

IQ
An IQ Novel: Book #1
By Joe Ide
Narrated by: Sullivan Jones
Length: 9 hours 8 minutes
IQ
“IQ is the nickname of Isaiah Quintabe, who, despite being a high-school dropout, is absolutely brilliant and has amazing deductive skills. Living on the rough side of Long Beach, California, he is an underground detective who takes on cases in the city's ghettoes that the LAPD refuses to handle. Beginning with a kidnapping and moving to a case involving the assassination attempt on a famous rapper, IQ represents a positive influence in this tough environment of gang warfare, drugs, murders, and prostitution. A mixture of Michael Connelly's The Lincoln Lawyer, the craziness of Don Winslow's Savages, and the classic mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, this debut will spark interest and open up this particular world to new readers.”
