While Paris Slept

A Novel

By Ruth Druart
Narrated by: Luke Thompson, Frazer Hadfield, Jane Collingwood & Heather Long
Length: 12 hours 22 minutes

While Paris Slept

“I've read many books that take place during WW II, and this is one of the most original. Charlotte and Jean Luc and their son, Sam, have a good life in California, after escaping the horrors of occupied Paris. They have secrets, though, and those secrets will impact all of them very much. This was a very different take on the war and I enjoyed the originality very much. I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic!”

A Deadly Education

A Novel
The Scholomance: Book #1

By Naomi Novik
Narrated by: Anisha Dadia
Length: 10 hours 58 minutes

A Deadly Education

“If I could rate this more than 10, I would! The narrator in this book, El or Galadriel, is irritable, snarky, a giant grump, and prophesied to be a terrifying and destructive villain to humanity. She is also one of the most loveable characters I've had the pleasure of meeting in a novel, and I can't wait to learn more about her and her fellow classmates in the Scholomance, the highly dangerous magical academy they attend. The audiobook was a pure delight to listen to, and I was utterly transfixed by Anisha Dadia's narration. ”

Cemetery Boys

By Aiden Thomas
Narrated by: Avi Roque
Length: 13 hours 47 minutes

Cemetery Boys

“"Listening to Cemetery Boys made me smile. A lot. Aiden Thomas presents a story of persistence, mystery, and finding one’s place in the world. Yadriel, a trans, teenage, latinx boy, lives in a family of brujos and brujas. After coming out as trans his family does not know where he fits within their traditions. With the help of his opinionated cousin Maritza, Yadriel completes the ceremony to become a brujo in secret and accidentally summons the wrong ghost: Julian, a high energy boy from his school. Yadriel, Julian and Maritza set out to solve the mystery of Julian’s death, and to release his spirit. Of course, to make things more awkward, Yadriel develops a crush on the spirit boy. What more could one ask for? Thomas creates a magical but real world highlighting family dynamics surrounding trans identity within a gendered society, the need to prove oneself, and the importance of connecting to family. This book may sound spooky, but instead the story is feel-good, heartwarming, and silly at times; it’s all about celebrating life and being who you are."”

Full Throttle

Stories

By Joe Hill
Narrated by: Zachary Quinto, Wil Wheaton, Kate Mulgrew, Neil Gaiman, Ashleigh Cummings, Joe Hill, Laysla De Oliveira, Nate Corddry, Connor Jessup, Stephen Lang & George Guidall
Length: 16 hours 12 minutes

Full Throttle

“What a ride! This book of stories (two written with Stephen King) is a fast ride through Hill’s considerable imagination. He takes us through 13 stories of suspense, from the back of a motorcycle and outrunning a murderous semi-truck driver to an American sea monster, then on to a young girl who befriends a machine, and ending with, well, the end of the world. His stories are reminiscent of a certain well-known horror writer, but are clearly his own brand of terror. I enjoyed each of them and wished that some might morph into full-length books because it was hard to let them go. I always look forward to Hill’s books, and this one did not disappoint.”

My Name Is Lucy Barton

A Novel

By Elizabeth Strout
Narrated by: Kimberly Farr
Length: 4 hours 11 minutes

My Name Is Lucy Barton

“Strout has the incredible ability to take ordinary, even mundane situations and use them to make acute observations on the human condition. A mother's visit to her daughter in the hospital becomes the vehicle for an astute examination of daily needs, desires, yearnings, wishes, and dreams that become so much of the remembered experience. Using spare, precise, but beautiful language, she has produced another masterpiece in a growing list of impressive work.”

Spindle and Dagger

By J. Anderson Coats
Narrated by: Bronwen Price
Length: 7 hours 38 minutes

Spindle and Dagger

“I don't read much YA but I was very impressed with the language and historical research that obviously went into this book. The author did an excellent job of imparting what Wales might have been like in the 1100s; cold, grim, violent. The narrator is terrific. This is definitely a title that I would recommend to adult book clubs, as well as the young adults looking for a good history read.”
