Belinda's Picks

Since before she read Green Eggs and Ham cover to cover at age four, books have been intrinsic to Belinda's life. With scant spare time for leisure reading in college, she dedicated her electives to literature classes so she could read fiction and, by happenstance, earned a minor in English. Today, favorite subjects include Appalachian literature, science, human behavior, and, of late, resilience (and re-reading her favorite book for life, To Kill a Mockingbird, every couple of years, or so).

Lost in Time

By: A.G. Riddle
Narrated by: John Skelley
Length: 11 hours 28 minutes

“I am not usually drawn to science fiction, but Lost In Time by A.G. Riddle pulled me in by page 1 - the characters are compelling and the story is mind-bending. I found myself at times - which times?!! past, present, future? - re-reading passages to see how that could possibly happen only to remind my startled self that this is science fiction!... Read more

“Rooted in her Appalachian upbringing, sixteen-year-old Honey Lovett's fierce and wilful spirit is nearly crushed when the loving adults in her life are taken from her. A Wing and a Prayer

Length: 9 hours 2 minutes

“One-third of the number of birds alive 50 years ago in North America are gone. Vanished. Reading this brief, unflinching analysis in A Wing and a Prayer by Anders and Beverly Gyllenhaal stopped me cold. I closed the book and gazed out at my backyard bird feeder. Nearly 2.913 billion fewer birds than in the early 1970s - not here to fly, chirp,... Read more

This Isn't Going to End Well

The True Story of a Man I Thought I Knew

By: Daniel Wallace
Narrated by: Michael Crouch

“How well do we know those closest to us? And what do they owe us, and we them? This Isn't Going to End Well, Daniel Wallace's deeply personal account of his decades of near-worship of his brother-in-law, replaced by a cold bitterness, had me asking these questions. I at times felt as if I was reading an intensely personal journal not meant for... Read more
