Garth Stein

We’re excited to feature author Garth Stein as a Bookstore Champion! A tireless supporter of bookstores, he currently leads author fundraising at the Book Industry Charitable Foundation and serves on the board of Hugo House. He co-founded Seattle7Writers, a collective of writers who strengthened the ties between bookstores, libraries, readers, and writers with “literary good deeds,” which included partnering with local bookstores for unique programs like writing marathons. He even worked at five Seattle-area bookstores in one day for Indies First. Garth Stein uses his platform to support independent bookstores and raise money to help booksellers in crisis, and we’re honored to call him a Bookstore Champion.

“It’s real human connection...there’s nothing mass about a bookstore. It becomes this very personal, intimate exchange that for me sums up the human experience.”

Indies First: One Author, One Day, Five Bookstores

Garth Stein, author of The Art of Racing in the Rain, raced between five bookstores in the Seattle, Wash., area on Saturday, participating at each as an official Indies First bookseller. Happily for us, he kept a journal of his bookselling adventures.
