A wave of refugees has arrived on the Sicilian coast, and Inspector Montalbano and his team have been stationed at port, alongside countless volunteers, to receive and assist the newcomers.

Meanwhile, Livia has promised their presence at a friend’s wedding, and the inspector, agreeing to get a new suit tailored, meets the charming master seamstress Elena Biasini. But while on duty at the dock one late night, tragedy strikes, and Elena is found gruesomely murdered.

Between managing the growing crowds at the landing, Montalbano delves into the world of garments, in the company of an orphaned cat, where he works to weave together the loose threads of the unsolved crimes and close the case.

Andrea Camilleri (1925–2019) wrote the internationally bestselling Inspector Montalbano mysteries as well as historical novels. His books have been made into television shows in Italy and translated into thirty-two languages. His thirteenth Montalbano novel, The Potter’s Field, won the Crime Writers’ Association International Dagger Award and was long-listed for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

Alexander Adams is a pseudonym for narrator Grover Gardner. His most high-profile book to date is the unabridged novelization of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, recorded in a joint effort by BOT and Random House under the Adams moniker. He lives in Maryland.

Stephen Sartarelli is an award-winning translator and poet.

Reviews

“Half the fun of reading a mystery by the late Andrea Camilleri is watching his detective, Inspector Salvo Montalbano of the Sicilian police, as he bluffs, breaks rules, or even flat-out lies for justice’s sake…[For] anyone who likes mysteries with good plotting and characterization, vivid local color, and sparkling language.”

“Provides a pleasant reading experience…Old, blind, and addicted to cigarettes, Camilleri is nonetheless on his game and in fine form.”

“Grover Gardner narrates this Sicilian police procedural with ease and familiarity…Gardner characterizes the key players strongly, including the members of Montalbano’s quirky team…Sartarelli’s translation ensures that the strong Silicilan ambiance is carefully blended with very American expressions and phrases, resulting in an engaging listen.”

“A witty and well-crafted addition to Camilleri’s oeuvre.”

“The multilayered plot seizes the reader’s imagination as much as it engages Montalbano’s keen detective instincts.”

“Fans should especially enjoy the expanded role of the detective’s lover in his droll, clever twenty-fourth outing.”
