Bagpuss, dear Bagpuss, old fat furry cat-puss, wake up, wake up and look at this thing that I bring...

Bagpuss, created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin, is no ordinary cat. Bagpuss, is a saggy old cloth cat,who lives in a shop where lost and broken things are brought by Emily to be "mended" or given new life. When Bagpuss wakes up, so do his friends: Professor Yaffle, Madeleine, Gabriel, and the lively mice. Together, they uncover the stories behind these objects, using music, imagination, and fun to bring each one to life. Bagpuss's world is full of wonder, where even the simplest things can hold magical adventures.

Emily finds a broken toy bird and brings it to Bagpuss. The gang is excited to discover the story of flying! Professor Yaffle explains the history of flight, while Madeleine and Gabriel create songs about soaring through the sky. The mice, of course, add their usual fun and mischief, imagining all sorts of wild flying adventures. It's a playful and exciting episode that explores the wonder of flight, showing how even a broken bird can inspire dreams of flying high.

Oliver Postgate & Peter Firmin: Pioneers of British Children's Television Oliver Postgate (1925โ€“2008) and Peter Firmin (1928โ€“2018) were the creative duo behind some of Britain's most beloved children's television shows. Together, they co-founded Smallfilms in 1959 and went on to create iconic programs such as Bagpuss, The Clangers, Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog, and Pingwings. Postgate, known for his gentle, timeless storytelling and signature narration, wrote and directed their shows, while Firmin, a talented artist and puppeteer, brought their characters to life through handcrafted puppets and animation. Using simple stop-motion techniques, they created magical worlds that resonated deeply with audiences for their warmth and charm. Bagpuss, perhaps their most famous creation, was voted the UK's favourite children's TV show in a 1999 BBC poll, while The Clangers, with its whistling, otherworldly creatures, remains another beloved classic. Their work combined whimsical storytelling with a sense of nostalgia that appealed to both children and adults. Their contributions to children's television were recognised with numerous awards. Postgate and Firmin both received BAFTA Special Awards in 2014 for their work on Bagpuss and The Clangers. In 1987, they were also awarded honorary degrees from the University of Kent in recognition of their impact on British culture. Postgate and Firmin's work left a lasting legacy on British television. Their handcrafted characters and timeless stories continue to enchant new generations.
