Phaedra has been cast to the side all her life: daughter of an adulteress, sister of a monster, and now unwilling bride to the much-older, power-hungry Theseus. Young, naïve, and idealistic, she has accepted her lot in life, resigned to existing under the sinister weight of Theseus’s control and the constant watchful eye of her handsome stepson Hippolytus. When supposedly pious Hippolytus assaults her, Phaedra’s world is darkened in the face of untouchable, prideful power. In the face of injustice, Phaedra refuses to remain quiet any longer: such an awful truth demands to be brought to light. When Phaedra publicly accuses Hippolytus of rape, she sparks an overdue reckoning. The men of Athens gather to determine the truth. Meanwhile, the women of the city, who have no vote, are gathering in the shadows. The women know truth is a slippery thing in the hands of men. There are two sides to every story, and theirs has gone unheard—until now. Timely, unflinching, and transportive, Laura Shepperson’s Phaedra carves open long-accepted wounds to give voice to one of the most maligned figures of mythology and offers a stunning story of how truth bends under the weight of patriarchy but can be broken open by the force of one woman’s bravery.

Laura Shepperson has been fascinated by myths and retellings since studying the classics at university, and her novel Phaedra updates the story of the sister of the Minotaur. In 2017, she was shortlisted for the Lucy Cavendish Prize for Fiction. She holds a Master of Studies in Creative Writing from the University of Cambridge and is trying to learn Ancient Greek. She lives with her husband and children outside London.

Jade Wheeler is an actor of the screen, stage, and booth. She has recorded nonfiction, self-help, and educational material as well as fiction, fantasy, and YA.

Mary Helen Gallucci is a narrator, musician, and linguist who is passionate about bringing characters to life. She holds a degree from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music and two graduate degrees. Before narrating audiobooks full time, she taught middle-school literature.

Julia Atwood is an actor and audiobook narrator who earned her bachelor's degree in classics and psychology from Wheaton College. She went on to attend the Moscow Art Theater’s Stanislavsky Summer School and graduated from Brown University with her master's degree in acting. She is currently based in New York City.

Mark Owen is an actor, an audiobook narrator, and a singer-songwriter from northwest Ohio. A long-time Toledo-area musician, he plays the mafia boss Vito Mancini in the 2018 indie film On the Arm and has performed in numerous theatrical productions.

Erin DeWard is an Audie Award-winning audiobook narrator and a classically trained stage actor. A longtime company member of The Strange Bedfellows, a New York-based Shakespeare company, she can also be found working with The Children's Shakespeare Theater. She has been working in the audio industry as a writer, a voice talent, an advocate for media accessibility for people who are blind, and a trainer for over a decade. She is a proud and grateful member of SAG/AFTRA.

Leon Nixon is a Los Angeles based voice actor who has narrated audiobook titles in a wide range of genres, including crime, mystery, science fiction, romance, and nonfiction. Classically trained as an actor and improviser, he can also be found performing on stage.

Nicky Endres is an adopted Asian-American non-binary transfeminine queer actor, comic, voice artist, and audiobook narrator. They have enjoyed a wide variety of roles in TV, film, and theatre, with notable guest starring and recurring roles on The Dropout, NCIS: Los Angeles, and One Day at a Time. They also provide the English-language voice for the starring role of Spanish trans icon Christina Ortiz Rodriguez in the HBO Max limited-series Veneno.
