Learn moreVera Wright-Turner thinks she has it all under control until she meets and greets herself. Born on the flip side of the hustler’s game, she is the child of a fifteen-year-old drug addict who places her in a trash dump, with a note that read, “Please forgive me … my mother’s only fifteen …” Well that is of little consolation to Vera as she lives her gold diggin’ life full speed ahead, only to come to a crashing halt when she realizes that facing up to the flip side of the game is the only way she will survive.
Tu-Shonda Whitaker embraces her love for writing and releases its passion in her fictitious novel, Flip Side of the Game. In 1996 Whitaker won the Ella Baker and W.E.B Dubois International award for fiction writing. Tu-Shonda has been published in the literary magazine, Grub Street Writer, for three consecutive years. She was also published in the Black Literary Journal. Tu-Shonda looks forward to making a notable contribution to the world of literature. She resides in New Jersey with her husband and two young daughters. Presently she has a career as a social worker.
Reviews
“Whitaker effectively infuses humor with wildly animated supporting characters.”
