After suffering physical abuse at the hands of his stepmother, James Garner left home at fourteen. He became Oklahoma's first draftee of the Korean War and was awarded with two Purple Hearts before returning to the United States and settling in Los Angeles to become an actor. Working alongside some of the most renowned celebrities, including Julie Andrews, Marlon Brando, and Clint Eastwood, Garner became a star in his own right, despite struggles with stage fright and depression.

In The Garner Files, this revered actor and quintessential self-made man recalls "trying to decipher" William Wyler with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine, breaking Doris Day's ribs, having a "heart-to-heart and eyeball-to-eyeball" with Steve McQueen, being "a card-carrying liberal—and proud of it," and much more.

This audiobook features an introduction by Julie Andrews read by Wanda McCaddon.

James Garner is an American film and television actor. He has starred in several television series, including Maverick, The Rockford Files and 8 Simple Rules, and dozens of movies, including The Great Escape, Victor Victoria, and Murphy's Romance, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. In February 2005, Garner received the Screen Actors Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jon Winokur is a writer and editor. Born in Detroit, he earned his B.A. from Temple University and a J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles. He is the author of The Big Book of Irony and the compiler and editor of books including The Portable Curmudgeon and Advice to Writers.

Audiobook veteran Michael Kramer has recorded more than two hundred audiobooks for trade publishers and many more for the Library of Congress Talking Books program. An AudioFile Earphones Award winner and an Audie Award nominee, he earned a Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Award for his reading of Savages by Don Winslow.
