"Masterful...A big story about human connection and emotional survival" - Los Angeles Times

The first book ever chosen by Oprah's Book Club

Few first novels receive the kind of attention and acclaim showered on this powerful story—a nationwide bestseller, a critical success, and the first title chosen for Oprah's Book Club. Both highly suspenseful and deeply moving, The Deep End of the Ocean imagines every mother's worst nightmare—the disappearance of a child—as it explores a family's struggle to endure, even against extraordinary odds. Filled with compassion, humor, and brilliant observations about the texture of real life, here is a story of rare power, one that will touch readers' hearts and make them celebrate the emotions that make us all one.

Jacquelyn Mitchard is the New York Times bestselling author of The Deep End of the Ocean, the first Oprah’s Book Club selection, as well as No Time to Wave Goodbye and many other books for both adults and children. A former syndicated columnist, she is a contributing editor for Parade magazine and founder of One Writer’s Place, an artist’s residence. Her work has appeared in More, Reader’s Digest, Good Housekeeping, and Real Simple, among other publications. Mitchard lives in Wisconsin with her family.

Dana Ivey is an American actress. She was born in Georgia in 1941. She earned a Fulbright grant to study drama at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Ivey first received recognition for her acting for a supporting role in a revival of Noël Coward's Present Laughter, for which she won the Clarence Derwent Award as Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play. On the silver screen Ivey has appeared in many films such as The Addams Family, Postcards from the Edge, The Help, and others. Dana Ivey has also performed on television on such shows as Ugly Betty, Monk, Sex and the City, Frasier, Oz, and Boardwalk Empire.
