The rich storytelling of Hawaii--with its legends, songs, and hula dancing--all helped shape her as a writer. Paddling canoe, gymnastics, riding horses, and attempting to play tennis and failing miserably are all things she enjoyed growing up on the north shore of Kauai. She now lives in the San Francisco Bay area, where she still enjoys salt-kissed air and the rich storytelling of a city teeming with talented artists.
